My birfday is March 12, 2000. That makes
me, let's see now. That makes me more than 7 years old!! I was born in Sodus, New York in a place where there were LOTS of other Basset Houndies. Also there
were lots of Cocker Spaniels. Those puppies have ears that are almost as long as mine, but My Mom sez that I am much
more handsomer. Besides, I still have my magical tail to wag and spin--Cockers don't! I don't know why they don't
have long tails like mine. They just have a stubby widdle thing on their butts to wiggle!
One day Mom and Dad bwought my big sister Daisy out to where I lived because Daisy had
a date wif a handsome Basset Hound named Bailey who lives there. I think the idea was that Bailey was going to
help Daisy get puppies. Daisy had been there for "dates" wif other handsome guys several times before in her four years,
but had never gotten any puppies! Well, my Grandma in Sodus figured that Daisy wasn't going to let Bailey help her get
puppies, either. So Grandma decided to let ME go home with Daisy's Mom and Dad and let them be MY new Mom and Dad!
(I heard something about studly feet that had already been paid, whatever that is, and I was the "refund"--it's all so confusing
to me!) So yippeeeee! Off I went to my new forever home with Daisy, Mom and Dad! It was a vewy long car
ride, and it was my vewy first car ride. I was only a widdle tyke 8 weeks old and I got kinda sick.
Everybody but our kitty, Shadow, is a girl. So Mom and Dad wanted to name me something
that would sound really studly, so they named me after a very tough guy named John Wayne, who played a big strong detective on
TV named "Brannigan"--That's ME!!
Anyway, when I got home, I was sooooo happy to find there were two other Houndies here, and
a black furry guy I learned is a kitty! I never saw a kitty before, and now I luv kitties! It looked to me like
everything was going to be just fine--but you know what the very best thing of all was?
SURPRISE!! Daisy got puppies after all!!
Well, at first I was just a baby myself, but by the time the puppies got here, I was much
bigger'n them. Then by the time Daisy decided it was okay for me to be wif the puppies, I was about five months
old, and already a very big, handsome guy. I appointed myself their "Uncle Brannigan" and I spent as much time wif the
puppies as Mom and Daisy would let me! I wuvved those puppies soooooo much! I laid on my back sometimes and
let them crawl all over me, I let them bite me, chew on my ears and everything! Sometimes when they got tired and fell
asleep in a widdle pile, I laid myself near them and watched over them while they sleeped. Lots of times they fell asleep
right on top of me! Oh, I sure wuvved them puppies! I think Daisy appweciated all the time I spent wif them
on accounta it gave her a chance to get some extra rest she really needed. It's tough on a mama basset bringin'
up a buncha puppies!
Here are a few fun pictures of me wif the puppies:
